College

College is one of the best times of your life.  That's what I had been
told all throughout middle school and high school.  Three fourths of
the way into my freshman year of college and it is proving to be true.

I really don't know what I expected college to be like when I was in
high school.  I knew that I would like college.  I hated high school.
It was just a popularity contest that I preferred not to enter.  It
was a waste of my day.  It was a time to be stupid with my friends.
It was five days until the weekend came around and I was free do to
what I wanted.

Now that I am paying as much as I am for my college education that
attitude has done a 180 degree turn.  College is a blast.  There are
so many different people brought together, hopefully, to learn and
grow as people and intellectually.

(Just for some of the mature high school students, some of your
classmates will never grow up so be prepared.)

Going to college somewhere that you have never lived before, or even
lived all of your life, is a completely awesome experience.  The
friendships that are made in college are generally life long, people
are meeting their significant other, or are dating around.  You can
find anyone in any given situation at any time at college.

My favorite thing about college is how much more relaxed it is.  There
are people chilling out and goofing off and there are people who are
talking about real issues.  There is every extreme and in between
imaginable.  There are so many people who have had completely
different lives than me and it gives me a chance to think or see
something from a different light. You have the opportunity to become
whoever you want to be.

ZZL brought up a good point when she said "that it feels almost the
same as high school. I wish people would drop the drama, grow up and
realize that the most important thing about college is not if your
boyfriend/girlfriend is cheating on you, still likes you, etc."

Carol said "My favorite thing about college was how every afternoon we
used to all hang out on the front steps. I used to sing. There were
drummers, guitarists, flute players... we would have jam sessions and
even though it was never rehearsed, everyone would know each note
perfectly."

The insight of the great Sandi is that "all those years as an
undergrad taught me one basic thing: How to learn on my own.  And how
very little I actually know. Another big lesson."

College is the time in life where we are the most free.  Not bogged
down with too many bills and some of us still don't have kids.  We are
still learning about life, we know we arn't quite invincible anymore.
Some of us striking out on our own for the first time, some are
veterans. We are growing, we are learning, we are changing., hopefully
for the better.

We are college students.  I think I'm going to become a Professional
College Student when I grow up.  That way I never have to leave the
fun.
